Description: |
Construction Waste Management is a management technique for the recycling and/or re-use of waste generated at a construction site. Construction waste consists of many different recyclable materials such as miscellaneous metals, wood, glass, concrete, stone, cardboard, and sheet rock; and many reusable items such as toilet partitions, carpet, windows, light fixtures, etc. Construction Waste Management makes the separation of materials an integral part of the day to day activities at a construction site. This technique provides an alternative to the use of landfills and saves landfill tipping fees. HCB Contractors of Dallas, Texas, has successfully implemented this innovation at the Mary Kay Cosmetics International Headquarters project in Addison, Texas. As part of the overall quality assurance program, subcontractors were instructed on how to properly separate waste into containers provided for various recyclable materials and on how salvageable items were to be donated and/or picked up. As a result, 40 percent was saved by sending a container to a recyclery rather than to a dump. Keywords: recycle |
